Welcome to Regan Taylor's World

While Regan's characters come from far and wide and from other times and places, I'm happiest sitting in my cozy home with the furfaced children, commonly called cats.

Regan's books always seem to start out as stand alone reads, but somewhere along the way one or more characters takes on a life of his or her own and suddenly there is another story in the making. To that end she has several series in progress including Eyes, Bride, Descendants of Earth, Mc Kenna Crime series and her forthcoming Return to the Roundtable.

The Eyes series started out from a discussion between Regan and fellow author Jennifer Cloud. When Regan heard about the first face transplant in France her first thought was that it sounded like the makings of a Cloud horror story where something goes horribly arwy. On the other hand Jennifer thought it sounded like a Taylor sweet romance where a couple has the chance to do it again and make it right this time. Her Eyes was born and asks the question When you look into Her Eyes, what do you see?

Along the way they created Detective Mike Malone and he tugged at Regan's heart strings and after a vivid dream that actually appears in the story, Regan wrote His Eyes. It tells Mike's story and how no matter how many questions you ask, there is always one you should ask but don't. His Eyes asks the question, When you look into His Eyes, who do you see?

I've always been a huge fan of westerns and western romance. (Would you consider Zorro with Guy Williams a western?) I watched Maverick (oh sigh Hugh O'Brien), Davy Crockett (double sigh Fess Parker), Bonzana, The High Chapparal and Raw Hide religiously growing up. And western romance? My oh my. So I just had to write my own story which was Indentured Bride. Along the way I "discovered" my hero Brett Parker not only had two brothers but he has a best friend who is the man of my dreams. What started out as a stand alone story for myself turned into the Bride Series. Indentured Bride is available now. Mistaken Bride is contracted but no release date yet although Skylar Sinclair did one of her amazing covers for me. Traveling Bride is written but needs some clean up now that I know what the inside one of the buildings actually looks like.

We know what our own history has been, more or less. But what if our history is also our future? The Descendants of Earth series takes place 500 years into the future and we haven't really changed all that much. We still have cultural differences, men struggle with emotion and we still fall in love. Jason's Accord began as a stand alone story until my editor, Bea came to me and told me how special she felt Jason's best friend, Michael was. She convinced me Michael needed his own story, which he got in Michael's Flight. Along the way I "met" two of Michael's friends, Blaise and Stavin who will soon have their own stories to share.

In Jason's Accord, Jason Dumont is a man of honor. A man who steadfastly works for what is right. In the anti-slavery camp of his planet, Martan populated by descendants of the first Mars colony, he cannot help himself with he first encounters Miranda of the planet Eadron. He brings her to his home, falls in love yet faces losing her due to his own sense of honor.

Jason's Accord

Michael's Flight begins at the end of Jason's Accord. Having lost the woman he thought he loved, Michael LaRosa journeys away from his home planet of Martan and finds himself on Thermodon, a planet populated by the descendants of Earth's Amazons. Her he finds true love, but will she have him?

This series grew out of my experiences in my local police department. While I live in a city of 55,000 there is very much a small town atmosphere and we had this wonderful chief whose motto was "no call is too small". We'd give a recalcitrant juvenile a ride to school in the morning. That didn't mean we didn't have our share of series incidents including a bomb on a car, stalkings and an occasional homicide. They just didn't happen that often. Still, ideas flow from a comment, a call, an incident. It was there the ideas for the McKenna series came to me.

Add in my own background in metaphysics and interest in psychic phenomena and Kelly McKenna was born.

The first of the series is The Spell where readers meet Kelly and her boyfriend. Ah, but which boyfriend is her true love and who is just a hot hero type? I enjoyed writing two heroes vying for one smart cookie of a heroine who knows her strengths and weaknesses as well as her frustrations of knowing her answers lie just beyond the veil. Pursued by one man, loved by another, can she find her one true love before time runs out?

The Spell

Book 2 is the Glass Cage, contracted with Siren. Kelly has recovered from the events in book 1 and is now trying to figure out just where to in life. There are options a plenty and then one day, out of the blue, a woman approaches her with an offer that may just been too good to be true. Can she escape the Glass Cage? (coming July 2010 with Siren-Bookstrand).

I'm thrilled to be part of the Tarot Series originated by eXtasy Books. I know a few other publishers caught on to it but eXtasy was the first. My two contributions are The Four of Cups - The Thrill is Gone (due out March 15, 2010) and The Knight of Pentacles (coming soon).

Actually grew out of an event I did with Allison Brennan, Brenda Novak and Karin Tabke. In 2009 I approached KOFY TV-20 in San Francisco to see if they would like to have a bevy of romance authors celebrate Valentine's Day with them. They said rather than just the day, how about a whole week of romance! We went down for taping one day and taped a full weeks of segments in an afternoon. While there, Brian, our cameraman said wouldn't it be fun to do a story with a cameraman as the hero. Well I haven't made him a hero just yet -- that is going to be an action packed full length story, but he does have a role in The Thrill is Gone. The Thrill is Gone is the story of a girl singing group who have moved on to other things yet the Four Cups, as they were known have kept together in their own way. They have their own secrets yet somehow, the thrill of it all has left them.

The Thrill is Gone - Four of Cups

The last thing Karley Roberts wants is for anyone to know in her other life she is ultra steamy writer Dee Dee Deeds, aka Dirty Deeds of the Love Cups. Research takes on a new meaning when she walks into O'Brien's and walks out with her very own Knight.

Kimmie Turner’s life has been anything but dull. From the blonde bombshell of a girl band to a sizzling erotic romance writer, her life has been a dream. She doesn’t want to do it, but this little voice tells her the time has come for another change. But is that little voice right?

Cafe Nowhere - Ghost of a Chance

My contribution to the Cafe Nowhere Anthology is Ghost of a Chance. Megan Rose is at her wits end with her job. A boss who is even more saddistic than even Megan thought sends Megan down a foggy road. What she finds at the end surprises her more than she could ever have imagined.

From the time Carrie Taylor discovered the magical worlds of romance novels, she has devoured them one right after the other. She not only thrilled to each new hero, one more dashing than the one before. Carrie clearly saw herself as each beautiful heroine waiting to be rescued by each daring hero. And then one day, she brought home a photograph. A very special photograph and suddenly her imaginary hero turned into a living and breathing man. Or did he?

At one time Black Eagle scoffed at the girls of his village wishing on a falling star. And yet his one great wish, that of a woman of his own, was never realized. And then one night, he wished upon a star. Can the love of a man from the past help a modern woman with her modern problems in a modern world?

On the heels of a dramatic rescue, Hollywood Hottie Austin Quinn decides he's the man to play United States Marine Corps Major Cass Winter's role in the film. The problem is the Major wants nothing to do with the actor -- no matter how many men and women swoon over him. When Quinn wrangles a ride in the Major's F/A-18 Hornet, they land in a time and place neither ever expected.
